Mayor: Telcos in Lapu can renew permits if spaghetti wires are cleared

TELECOMMUNICATION companies operating in Lapu-Lapu City can renew their business permits only after they get rid of spaghetti or dangling wires in the city.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan told SunStar Cebu on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, that he already instructed the City Engineering Office to inspect the areas if the telecommunication companies have complied with his order before they give them a clearance.

Chan said telecommunication companies have so far cleared the spaghetti or dangling wires along the streets of Barangays Buaya and Mactan.

“They can renew if they comply with the other areas kay dili raman katong area-ha ang ilang limpyohan kundi the entire city, including katong mga main thoroughfares, especially sa Basak area,” he said.

Last year, the mayor gave the telcos until December 16, 2022 to clear the wires, considering that it has been almost a year since the onslaught of Typhoon Odette (Rai) and yet entangled wires can still be seen in the city.

Chan said this had caused a lot of traffic incidents in the city, some of which had resulted in the death of several individuals. (MKG)
