THE Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) will start the construction of a desalination plant in Lapu-Lapu City before November this year.

“By the end of October, we will be signing (the contract) and the actual construction of the 30 MLD (millions of liter per day) desalination plant in Barangay Marigondon will start,” said MCWD chairman Jose Daluz III in a mix of Cebuano and English on Monday, September 19, 2022.

Daluz said the MCWD is looking for other sources of water, including the 20 MLD desalination plant of Vivant Hydrocore Holdings Inc. in Cordova town.

He said they also hope to start construction of a 25 MLD desalination plant in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City and a 15 MLD desalination plant in Barangay Subabasbas in Lapu-Lapu City this year.

On Sunday, September 18, the MCWD opened the P1.1 billion Lusaran Water Depot in Barangay Busay, Cebu City.

The bulk water facility can provide 20,000 cubic meters of water per day and is expected to supply around 40,000 households. (PAC/PJB)
