Like many of us, Sharon Cuneta needs a break from this pandemic.
The woman called “Megastar” by fans and colleagues alike flew to California because she said she needed a respite.
Showing off her Philippine passport, she wrote on her social media, “[T]onight I am flying home to my Mommy’s Gramps’ country, where only my eldest and I are legal residents. I need to breathe, collect myself, gain strength. Love you all and will miss you guys.”
A follow-up post on her Instagram showed the singer-actress saying goodbye to her children, Frankie, Miguel, and Miel Pangilinan, and their father, Senator Francis Pangilinan. Her latest post showed her in Los Angeles, California with a friend named Lorraine.
“Home in L.A. with one of my lifelong best friends on the planet, Lorraine! On our way to dinner,” Sharon wrote.
The singer has had a rough past few months, due to the illness of her long-time friend and makeup artist Fanny Serrano, who recently had a stroke.
The daughter of the late Pasay City Mayor Pablo Cuneta, Sharon started her career with the release of the hit song Mr. DJ in 1978. This was followed a few years later by the blockbuster success of the movie Dear Heart, in which she starred with her former loveteam partner and ex-husband Gabby Concepcion, the father of her first child KC Concepcion.
Since then, she has starred in memorable movies such as Pangako Sa ‘Yo (“My Promise to You”), Madrasta (“Stepmom”), Caregiver, and Crying Ladies. Her success as a singer and an actress has led the local press to give her the nickname “Megastar” — or “Mega” for short.
