STARTING the year right should include having travel plans in your schedule. Traveling safely while helping communities rebuild and recover is one of the best ways for you to set the tone this 2022.

With the opportunity for safe travels coming back again this year, Megaworld Hotels and Resorts, with all its 11 properties in the Philippines, is currently on a mission called the “Rebuild Recover Visayas Project.” The project aims to raise funds for areas in Mactan, Cebu devastated by Typhoon Odette.

When you stay in Megaworld Hotels and Resorts properties across the country, a portion of your nightly stays within the month of January will automatically proceed to the cause. Dining guests may also have the option to donate by informing the restaurant’s wait staff before billing out.

Cleofe Albiso, managing director and a local of Cebu City herself, shared: “It saddens us that we ended 2021 with a strong typhoon Odette that devastated many parts of the Visayas and Mindanao regions, stripping homes and businesses of its necessities. What’s inspiring though is that despite the personal battles we are faced with and amid the pandemic, people’s willingness to help and extend assistance is just as strong.”

Hotel property employees have already successfully gathered and will soon distribute P200,000 worth of donations through relief packs and cash donations. A total of 127 families will be receiving tote bags containing essentials like water, canned and dry goods as well as clothing among other items.

“This is a testament to people’s willingness to help and share. We are extending this opportunity to help to our guests and partners,” said Albiso.

The company’s next focus is targeting specific schools that need help in rebuilding. All donations will go to construction materials and manpower plus school supplies necessary for children to get back to a more conducive learning experience again.

“Our team through Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown are currently surveying possible schools within Mactan in dire need of this assistance,” said Albiso.

The project will take at least a month to finish depending on the damage and how soon help and supplies can come in to start the construction phase.

For everyone’s safety, please be advised that all properties of Megaworld Hotels and Resorts operate and follow strict IATF protocols and guidelines in adherence to updated alert level status requirements. (PR)
