Metro Mandaue gets food safety certification

METRO Mandaue has recently achieved the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification from the Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS) Philippines for its fresh section.

“The GMP and HACCP certification are given to those who consistently uphold health and food safety and sanitation in their operations,” said SGS Certification and Business Enhancement marketing manager Neli Dablio. “We are pleased to know that another store, Metro Mandaue, has met the standards for certification as it puts the safety of its customers a priority.”

GMP and HACCP are two separate food management systems, both designed to guarantee the safety of food. These systems are based on the Recommended International Code of Practice General Principles of Food Hygiene by Codex Alimentarius Commission.

It is the organization responsible for all matters regarding the implementation of Food Standards Programme jointly undertaken by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the World Health Organization.

“We, at Metro Retail Stores Group Inc. (MRSGI), go above and beyond to make Filipinos feel at ease when they restock on their essentials, especially at a time when the public is concerned about health and safety,” said MRSGI chairman and chief executive Frank Gaisano. “We are very proud that Metro Mandaue has received such a prestigious certification as a testament to all our efforts to provide excellent service.”

MRSGI is the first retailer in the Philippines that holds this certification. Metro Mandaue is an addition to three MRSGI supermarkets that have already received this certification: Metro Supermarket Alabang, Metro Ayala Cebu and Metro Market! Market! (PR)
