Microsoft Surface may be tough, but its keyboard? Maybe not so much

Surface, Microsoft's new Windows 8-powered tablet, is one tough nut, with a user narrating how it survived being run over by a car —but the same may not be said of its keyboard.

A report on The Next Web cited the tweet of a user who said the Surface continued to work even after it was run over by a car.

"My Surface got (run) over by a car going 60 mph yesterday! I’m tweeting from it right now! INCREDIBLE build quality!" it quoted the user as saying in a tweet.

It quoted the user as saying the tablet was dropped on the road and kept on ticking.

The Next Web noted Microsoft had dropped a Surface at the Windows 8 launch event for show.

However, the same could not be said of the Touch Cover accessory, which serves as the Surface's keyboard.

An article on The Guardian cited complaints from users that the Touch Cover split within days of purchase.

It said some early buyers of the Surface claimed the edge that attaches to the computer comes away, requiring replacement.

"The (complaints said) the cover, which has an integral keyboard, begins to split at its seam where the device attaches magnetically to the main computer," it said.

It said it was not immediately clear if the problem was due to a faulty batch or a subtle problem.

"But the fact that users in the US and the UK have reported the problem suggests that it is not isolated to a single manufacturing batch," it said. — TJD, GMA News
