Mike Rama leads CCLEX ramp access groundbreaking

THE groundbreaking and capsul-laying for the construction of the ramp access of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) from V. Rama Avenue in Cebu City took place on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022.

Mayor Michael Rama said the multi-billion-peso project will greatly help the development of the city, particularly in the south district.

“Trust me, it will bring magic to the south district. It will bring magic to the downtown area and it will bring progress, prosperity and peace in the whole City of Cebu,” he said.

Rama said the ramp was his original plan when they discussed the third bridge with the late Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy in 2013.

Rama said that when he was the chairman of the Regional Development Council (RDC) Central Visayas and overall chairman of the RDC in the Visayas, he wanted bridges to connect Western Visayas, Central Visayas and Eastern Visayas.

“That was my dream, to connect (Regions) 6, 7 and 8 because progress (will) not be elusive if you connect your hand and bring all to be one,” he said.

Also present at the activity was Cordova Mayor Cesar Suan, who thanked Cebu City and the the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corp. (CCLEC), saying the project will also benefit his town.

Allan Alfon, president and general manager of the CCLEC, said they are coordinating with the City Government to identify the ramp’s place of alignment.

Alfon said the four-lane ramp is estimated to cost between P2 and P3 billion, depending on the route.

He said they don’t have a date yet when they can formally start the project since that will depend on how fast the City Government can clear the route of informal settlers. (PAC / PJB)
