Another Cabahug is set to showcase his skills in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) as Mikey Cabahug, the son of former PBA great Elmer “Boy” Cabahug, was tapped to play for Barangay Ginebra’s 3x3 squad.
Cabahug will be playing alongside Val Chauca, Denice Villamor, Hubert Cani, Jollo Go, and Jojo Cunanan. Current Barangay Ginebra assistant coach, Kirk Collier, will coach the team.
A 6-foot-3 wingman with a deadly touch from the outside, Cabahug has plenty of experience playing in both the PBA D-League and the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League where he played for Navotas.
“I’m very thankful for the opportunity that despite the pandemic I was still chosen by Ginebra. Even though it’s not 5 vs 5, I’m still honored to be able to play in the PBA. It may be different from the 5 vs 5 but representing a storied franchise in the league is such a blessing,” said Cabahug.
The younger Cabahug is the second from his family to make it to the PBA after his father, Boy Cabahug, was drafted by Alaska back in 1989. The elder Cabahug made a career out of being a deadshot from the outside and a prolific scorer. Cabahug played for Alaska, Purefoods, Pepsi and Sta. Lucia and was named to the PBA Mythical Second Team in 1992. (JNP)
