Davao City - The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) was urged by Team PNoy senatorial candidate Edgardo 'Sonny' Angara to intensify its monitoring of prices and quality of school supplies in anticipation to the increase in demand come opening of classes in June. In a recent briefing with the members of the media here, Angara said the DTI should require retail stores to post or cause the publication in newspapers the allowable prices of school supplies that will serve as a guide for consumers. He added that the massive monitoring should cover retail outlets and bookstores, small stores, public markets and department stores to prevent distributors and retailers from taking advantage of the huge demand for school supplies. Davao City - The nearly 1 million voters in this city were recently wooed by United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) senatorial candidate Jack Enrile to support his platform of food security. The congressman from Cagayan said he was deeply disturbed by what happened in Davao City in February when hungry typhoon Pablo victims carted away sacks of rice and foodstuff from the DSWD warehouse. ''This should not happen again, whether during an emergency or in normal times. That can only mean that government has failed in its responsibility to feed its own people,'' Enrile said. Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur (PNA) - The official ballots for the May 13 automated elections in this city have already arrived, an election official has announced. Acting City Election Officer Atty. Edmund Rey Calo said the official ballots were delivered from Ozamis City by Air-21 in a closed-container van and escorted by policemen. The official ballots were packed in 151 boxes representing the number of clustered precincts of this city, Calo said. Each of the boxes has a bar coded serial number and a ballot identification (ID) number, he said. He said the serial numbers were scanned and the ballot ID numbers were recorded before the boxes containing the official ballots were received by City Treasurer Florina Gerona for safekeeping. Davao City - Team PNoy senatorial bet Francis 'Chiz' Escudero, in his recent visit here, said surveys conducted by the National Statistical Coordination Board or NSCB must be done yearly. When asked by reporters here on the recent NSCB survey, Escudero said the problem with such survey is that it is only done once in every 5 years. In such situation it would be difficult to determine the fluctuations of poverty incidents each year, he said. Recently, the NSCB have released a survey result indicating that the poverty level remains unchanged since 2006. (Alexander Lopez)
