‘The Mistress’ Earns P300 M Worldwide, Closes In On ‘Praybeyt Benjamin’

MANILA, Philippines-"The Mistress" is reportedly now just 32 million pesos short of becoming the highest grossing local film in Philippine history.

ABS-CBN Chairman Gabby Lopez and President Charo Santos-Concio have personally congratulated the cast and crew of "The Mistress" led by its stars John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo.

"Nakakatuwang isipin na nangyari lahat ito dun sa 10th anniversary namin so napakalaking gift nito for us," John Lloyd said in an interview aired on "TV Patrol" on Oct. 2. "Siguro sinuswerte lang or talagang pinagpapala tayo."

The movie has already nudged the ticket sales of "No Other Woman" that now stands in third place with gross of about 280 million pesos. "The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin" starring comedian Vice Ganda remains on top with about 330 million pesos tally.

The battle for highest grossing film title heats up in the last quarter of 2013. Also getting a lot of buzz based on their trailers' YouTube hits are "This Guy's In Love With You Mare" and "A Secret Affair" both set to hit theaters in the coming weeks. Interestingly, the two movies star the actors who were also part of the top one and top three hit local movies of all time at least as of this writing.

For now, though, "The Mistress" has a fighting chance of usurping the seat that "Praybeyt Benjamin" holds. "The Mistress" continues to pack in theaters and it is still showing nationwide on extended run.

The top 10 local movies of all time according to boxofficemojo.com are: "The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin" (P331.61 M); "The Mistress" (P300 M); "No Other Woman" (P278.39 M); "You Changed My Life" (P225.21 M); "A Very Special Love" (P179.25 M); "Unofficially Yours" (157.25 M); "One More Chance" (152.78 M); "My Amnesia Girl" (P144.82 M); "Miss You Like Crazy" (142.97 M); and "A Love Story" (139.63 M).

Note that seven out of these 10 films co-star John Lloyd Cruz.

"The Mistress" tackles the controversial issue of infidelity. It is said to screen abroad in selected venues across North America, Middle East, Europe, New Zealand and Guam. The stars of the film recently attended an international premiere of the film held in Nice, France.
