MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday said it is monitoring a total of 638 areas nationwide reported with clustering of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said 513 of these were recorded within communities, 49 in hospitals or health facilities, and 24 in jails.
Of the 513 communities with clustering of COVID-19 cases, 170 were in Metro Manila while 122 were in Central Visayas.
“Meron din tayong top provinces and cities by new cases this week, July 12 to 18. Manila, QC, Mandaluyong, Cebu City, Navotas and Makati… compared with previous cases in this locality,” Vergeire said.
The health official once again reminded the public to strictly follow health protocols such as the wearing of face mask and practicing physical distancing to avoid contracting the disease especially in areas with confirmed community transmission or clustering of cases.
The Philippines has so far recorded a total of 68,898 COVID-19 cases with 43,991 active cases. Total recoveries also rose to 23,072 while the reported deaths were at 1,835. – RRD (with details from Correspondent Aiko Miguel)
