CEBU City will get 20,000 more cubic meters of water per day, benefiting 20,000 households, starting May 2022 when the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) begins pumping water from Barangay Lusaran.
This was revealed Monday, Sept. 13, 2021 by MCWD board of directors chairman Jose Daluz III, who said that by October or November, depending on the board’s decision, MCWD may start accepting applications from nine barangays through which lines will be installed for the water to flow to its final points of Barangay Busay, Apas and Lahug.
The MCWD has entered into a joint venture with JE Hydro and Bio Energy Corp. to use the water from the Lusaran river.
JE Hydro will spend for the water impounding infrastructure, including the water lines and devices needed to clean the water from the river, which is 30 kilometers from Barangay Busay.
MCWD, on the other hand, will put up the reservoir in Busay to store the water that will be supplied to the barangays below it.
The contractor who won the bid to build the P100 million reservoir may begin work on it by October or November.
MCWD will spend another P100 million for the water lines going below Busay. (PAC)
