A Bohol-based entrepreneur has received the Goldman Sachs/Fortune Most Powerful Women Global Award, becoming the first Filipina to win the prestigious award.
In a Facebook post on Saturday (Oct 1), Dalareich Polot, dubbed as “Bohol’s Chocolate Princess”, said that the award comes with a grant for her community projects.
“I am extremely honored to be the first Filipina to be conferred this prestigious award at ‘Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit’ in California in the next few days. I am also very ecstatic that it comes with a grant that I can utilize to pay-it-forward to my adopted communities,” Polot said.
The 34-year-old co-founder of Dalareich Food Products and founder of Ginto Chocolates, said that she has been chosen for the award along with Hend Osama from Egypt.
Polot’s business, Ginto Chocolates, produces artisanal chocolate products and helps cacao farmers in Bohol produce quality raw materials.
"I didn't... expect that they would choose me because I'm competing with other graduates from different countries," she said.
According to Polot, she was among the Goldman Sachs scholars under the 10,000 Women Business Training Program back in 2011.
“I’m one of the Goldman Sachs scholars in 2011 under 10,000 Women Business Training Program in partnership with University of Asia and the Pacific and IESE Business School. I was the youngest scholar in my cohort but grateful that I was part of the program, and everything started there,” the businesswoman shared.
"They (UAP) sent me an application in the last week of August where you can write your 'Pay it Forward' project for your chosen community. In the Philippines, only me was given an application form," she added.
The Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit convenes a community of preeminent women in business, along with select leaders in government, philanthropy, education, sports, and the arts for inspiring conversations every year, according to Goldman Sachs.
Each year a graduate of the 10,000 Women program is awarded the highly prestigious Goldman Sachs and Fortune Global Women Leaders Award.
Women leaders including Melinda Gates, US government women representatives from different states, and women CEOs from Fortune 500 companies network will be at the event this year.
