Mother Kills Daughter By Accident

KIDAPAWAN CITY, Cotabato - Authorities arrested on Monday a 21-year-old mother for killing her daughter by accident in Matalam, North Cotabato, a belated police report revealed yesterday.

Senior Inspector Elias Dandan, Matalam police chief, identified the suspect as Jocelyn Lavandero, 21, of Barangay Bangbang, Matalam.

The arrest came a day after the suspect killed her one-year-old daughter, Novie Joy, around 4 p.m., on Monday, Dandan said.

Wilma Ma-aya, Matalam social welfare officer, said it was an official from Barangay Bangbang who gave authorities a hint about the killing of the baby girl in their village.

After being confronted by police and Ma-aya, Lavandero allegedly admitted to having killed her daughter by accident when she slapped the baby hard in the face in a bid to stop her tantrums.
