Move to oust Alvarez surfaces in Lower House

QUEZON CITY, Philippines – Rumors are circulating on the sudden shift in House Speakership today (July 23) hours before President Rodrigo Duterte delivers his third state of the nation address (SONA).

House sources said Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo would be sitting as the House Speaker in this afternoon’s SONA replacing Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.

Reports said it was the House minority group led by Quezon Representative Danilo Suarez as the proponent of the move in the plenary today.

Davao Del Norte 2nd District Representative Tony Boy Floriendo denied being behind the ouster move though he confirmed that such idea indeed are filling the air of the Lower House.
