Manny Pacquiao (MP) Promotions is considering picking up a few of the boxers who were recently released by Cebu-based boxing organization ALA Boxing after the latter announced it was shutting down on Wednesday evening.
MP Promotions is the boxing promotions arm of boxing legend Manny Pacquiao. Its president, Sean Gibbons, has said in reports that he is going to look into what he can do to help several of the ALA boxers.
After 35 years in the business, ALA Boxing announced that it was closing up shop as it could no longer move forward with its operations due to the financial constraints brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization’s problems were compounded by the shut down of its longtime television partner, ABS-CBN.
ALA Boxing also announced that it was releasing all of the boxers in their stable to give them a chance to hook up with other promotions.
If and when any of the ALA studs are picked up, they will add to an already impressive roster led of course by Pacquiao, Jerwin Ancajas, Johnriel Casimero and Pedro Taduran.
Some of ALA’s finest include the legendary Donnie “Ahas” Nietes, who is only the third Filipino boxer to win world titles in four weight classes. The 38-year old though, has not fought in two years with his last fight happening on December 31, 2018 in a win over Kazuto Ioka.
The other top ALA fighters include Milan Melindo, Jonas Sultan, Arthur Villanueva, Albert and Jason Pagara. (JNP)
