Myleene Klass has admitted she struggled to even say the word miscarriage after losing four pregnancies, admitting the experience "nearly broke me".

The 43-year-old musician and presenter opens up on her grief in new documentary entitled Myleene Klass: Miscarriage & Me for W, and hopes to break down the stigma around talking about pregnancy loss.

Klass said: “It is one word, but it is grief, it is trauma, it is sadness, it is fear. There must be a reason people can't say it.

“I lost a lot of me. I couldn't talk about it for a year, I couldn't even say the word.”

The singer is mother to daughters Ava, 14, and 10-year-old Hero with first husband Graham Quinn and has a two-year-old son Apollo with her current partner Simon Motson.

But she suffered four miscarriages before Apollo was conceived and likened the PTSD she suffered to a soldier returning from war.

She said: "I have got my baby now but, God, I lost a lot of me. I think it nearly broke me.

“When you’ve been through miscarriage, you’ve been through a battle with your body. You’ve been to war and there are casualties.”

She said of her relationship with Motson: “I didn’t want to talk about it as I felt like I’d failed. I used to think he must be looking at me like, ‘Why can’t she just do this?’”

Earlier this year Klass - who has a regular Saturday Drivetime show on Smooth Radio - revealed she suffered a miscarriage while hosting the live radio show.

She said: “I was on air. I went to the loo while the music was playing and there was blood everywhere. I didn’t know what to do. I had one hour left of my show.”

Klass turned to friend and fellow radio presenter Lauren Laverne for the final hour of her show.

She said: “I rang Lauren Laverne and she said: ‘Do one link, take a breath, come out and call me.’ She got me through. I did the next link and called her. We counted the links.

“I would go out, sob and come back in, take a deep breath and speak. I don’t know what else I would have done. I was on air.”
