Philippine health authorities said Wednesday they have quarantined a Filipino who arrived from the Middle East because he tested positive for the deadly MERS virus. The man, who arrived in the Philippines on Tuesday, is not yet showing symptoms but has been isolated in hospital, Health Secretary Enrique Ona said. The Health Department is also quarantining the man's family and tracing the people who had contact with him during his flight to see if they may also be infected with the MERS or …

“I can help former Akbayan Rep. Risa Hontiveros-Baraquel.”

This was what the daughter of Vice President Jejomar Binay said about the Team PNoy candidate, who lost in the senatorial elections last May 13.

“I never had an issue against her. And at this point, we should not dwell on this (issue). It’s all in the past,” Senator-elect Nancy Binay said.

“We should all be preparing for a lot of work waiting in the Senate,” she added.

Binay made the comment after being asked if she is bent to fulfill her campaign promise to engage Hontiveros in a debate.

To prove her sincerity, Binay said she is willing to help Hontiveros pursue the pieces of legislation she wants to be approved in the Senate.

“Who knows if we meet in public forum, where we can debate. Who knows if she runs again in 2016? But at this point, we should all help each other out,” she said.

“Congresswoman Risa Hontiveros may still have some measures she wants to pursue and I am willing to help her get this done in the Senate,” she added.

Binay highlighted the possibility of working with Hontiveros, who has been known for promoting gender equality and supporting the Reproductive Health (RH) law.

Binay, who vowed to push for legislation for the welfare of young children, said women empowerment is still part of her advocacy.

Senator-elect Nancy Binay is surrounded by her family at the proclamation ceremonies.
