NCR police to seal cops' firearms on Dec. 29

Police personnel assigned to Metro Manila will have their firearms' muzzles sealed with tape on the last weekend of 2012, to ensure they do not fire their weapons indiscriminately to welcome 2013.

Metro Manila police head Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina warned his men of severe sanctions if they are found to fire their weapons to ring in 2013, radio dzBB's Tuesday Niu reported.

Espina said only those taking part in legitimate anti-crime operations may use their firearms.

The firearm muzzles are to be inspected on the first week of January 2013.

Also, Espina similarly warned civilians against using firearms to welcome the New Year, saying they will face criminal charges when caught.

Police officials in other areas had muzzled the service firearms of their personnel earlier this month to make sure they do not welcome 2013 with their firearms. —KG, GMA News
