A most welcome news for us Cebuanos is the soon-to-open National Museum in Cebu which will be housed at the former Malacañang Sa Sugbo. Now being restored and readied for the priceless collections of artifacts and fine arts, the heritage building had its unveiling and commemorative ceremony with National Museum Chairman of the Board Luli Arroyo Bernas, former Department of Tourism Secretary Berna Puyat, and Museum Director General Jeremy Barnes in attendance. Very much present to give their full support were Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama and Cebu City Tourism Commission chairperson Joy Pesquerra.

It was a pleasant surprise to meet new Marco Polo Plaza general mangaer Roel Constantino when Flor Ynclino had her birthday lunch at Cafe Marco. We haven’t been up there to that “Castle on the hill” for more than two years and missed the “changing of the guard.” GM Roel is a seasoned hand in the hotel industry and is all set to buckle down to work in these challenging times. We found it heartwarming too, to reconnect with our dear MPP friends Lara Scarrow, Julie Najar and Tess Catipay.

Two weeks later, on World Chocolate Day, we were back at Marco Polo for the launch of Tout Chocolat, a mid-afternoon buffet every Saturday in July at the Lobby Lounge. An extensive collection of chocolate goodies are on array: Pastries, cakes, hors d’ oeuvres and all kinds of desserts. Executive chef Juanito Abangan shared that he uses the high quality cacao of The Chocolate Chamber for the Tout Chocolat goodies. Present during the launch were Hannah and Jonathan Choa, the children of TCC founder Raquel Choa.

Though he failed in his bid to get a Senate seat, lawyer Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro is grateful for the more than 12 million votes he got last election. He hosted a thanksgiving and birthday celebration at Cebu White Sands Resort & Spa along with wife Nikki and son Jaime. It started with cocktails on a sultry Friday afternoon, went on to dinner and then the stage was set for a night of music and dancing.
