What’s new on Netflix and what’s leaving in October 2019

Rick Marshall

Netflix is offering a cornucopia of new streaming options for subscribers to enjoy in the comfort of their homes or on their mobile device of choice this October. From original shows to top-notch films, Netflix has a massive number of compelling offerings lined up. Read on for all the highlights, then scroll down for a full list of what’s new on Netflix.

Several popular house-produced projects debut this month, including the horror film In the Tall Grass, the premiere of the original series Raising Dion, season 5 of Peaky Blinders, the Breaking Bad spinoff film El Camino, and season 3 of Big Mouth.

The streaming giant also has a wealth of entertaining films and series not produced in-house on tap this month, including the first two Men in Black films, cult classic Trainspotting, and the fifth season of comedy series Schitt’s Creek.

Our top picks for October

El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie

This spinoff film picks up in the aftermath of Breaking Bad, and chronicles Jesse Pinkman’s (Aaron Paul) efforts to deal with the fallout of the show’s dramatic finale as he runs from his past. Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan penned the script for the film and directs the feature-length story, which brings back many of the series’ most popular characters, including one big fan favorite.

In the Tall Grass

Adapted from the terrifying novel of the same name by horror master Stephen King and his son, Joe Hill, Into the Tall Grass follows a pair of siblings whose attempt to rescue an endangered child in a large field traps them in a sinister environment that seems to offer no way out. As the supernatural elements of their surroundings come into focus, they become more desperate to escape — only to find that they’re not alone.

Raising Dion

A young, widowed mother discovers that her son, Dion, is beginning to show signs of superhuman abilities in this series based on the comic book of the same name by Dennis Liu. Pursued by government agents and other forces out to exploit his powers, she protects her son as she tries to uncover the secret of his gifts and his father’s mysterious death. Michael B. Jordan, Alisha Wainwright, Jason Ritter, and young actor Ja’Siah Young star in the series.

As usual, October is your last chance to watch a variety of shows and movies before they leave Netflix. Be sure to catch classics like Gremlins and Hoosiers, as well as found-footage monster movie Cloverfield before they disappear.

Below is the full list of everything new coming to the streamer in the month of October, and everything going away. Boldface names signify more of our favorites to help you load up your binge queue.
