Watch: Pete Bennett shares the final text he received from Nikki Grahame
Grahame – who dated Bennett after they met on the Channel 4 reality show in 2006 – died aged 38 on Friday 9 April following a long-term battle with anorexia.
Bennett revealed Grahame's last text message to him in an interview with Heat magazine. It read: "Hey Petie, all good my end.
"Starting a clinic on Monday, which is good. And the sun is shining today!"
Grahame suffered a relapse of her eating disorder during lockdown and spent three weeks in Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester, before being discharged just one day before she died.
Bennett says he had hoped to organise a surprise message to Grahame from her favourite singer Kate Bush to help lift her spirits.
He said: "I was looking to contact Kate Bush to see if she could send Nikki a message as I honestly thought that giving her a boost from her hero would help her start to feel more positive and recover.
"But then we got the news that she was gone. And it was too late."
It has been revealed that an internal investigation has been launched into Grahame's death at the hospital where she had been treated up until the day before she died.
A spokeswoman for Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust told Yahoo UK: “Staff at the trust were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Miss Grahame, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of Miss Grahame at this very difficult time.
“A full internal investigation into the circumstances of Miss Grahame’s death is currently under way. This is in line with standard procedures following any sudden death."
Grahame had been due to enter a private treatment facility after friends and family started a GoFundMe page to raise money to send her for rehabilitation.
The reality star's mother Susan Grahame appeared on ITV's This Morning last month to discuss the impact of lockdown on Grahame's eating disorder.
