THE NLEX Road Warriors continued their resurgence after they thwarted the defending champions San Miguel Beermen, 124-90, in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup on Friday, November 6, at the Angeles University Foundation Sports Arena and Cultural Center in Pampanga.

NLEX’s win — their third in a row — pushed their win-loss record to 4-5 to improve their chances of advancing to the quarterfinal round. San Miguel, on the other hand, suffered their second loss in a row and fell to 5-4.

The Road Warriors stepped on the gas pedal early and led, 36-25, after the first quarter. The second quarter saw more of the same sharp play from NLEX as they led by 20, 67-47, at halftime. They never let up in the second half to dominate the Beermen and snatch the wire-to-wire win.

Six different players scored in double-figures for NLEX led by the 22 points of reserve big man Mike Miranda. Kevin Alas had 19 points, nine rebounds and five assists in just 20 minutes of action, while Kiefer Ravena and Cebuano forward JR Quiñahan added 14 points apiece. Jericho Cruz put up 11, while Anthony Semerad tallied 10.

Paul Zamar scored a career-high 23 points in San Miguel’s losing cause. (JNP)
