No classes in Lapu for feast of Birhen sa Regla on Nov. 21

THERE will be no classes in all levels in all public schools in Lapu-Lapu City and work in the city government on Monday, November 21, 2022.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard "Ahong" Chan issued Wednesday, November 16, Executive Order No. 2022-58, suspending the classes and work in relation to the fiesta celebration of Nuestra Senora de Regla.

The suspension of classes include Lapu-Lapu City College. Chan, however, left the discretion to suspend the classes of the school management of the private schools in the city.

Chan noted that this is the first time in three years that various activities are being conducted owing to the relaxation or lifitng of health protocols due to coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

He said it is expected that an influx of devotees and visitors in the city may cause traffic congestion, difficulty in securing transportation, and lead to inconvenience in going to and coming from schools.

"There is a need to implement measures to minimize the possible inconvenience expected with a surge of devotees and visitors, protect health and well-being of all residents, and ensure the safety of all who will attend the activities," the EO reads.

The mayor, however, clarified that make up classes should be undertaken after in order to complete the number of school days prescribed by the Department of Education (DepEd) and Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

Meanwhile, offices with frontline services such as City Treasurers Office (CTO), Office of the Building Officials (OBO), City Health Office (CHO), City Planning and Development Office (CPDO), and BOSS, should have a skeletal force to man the office to receive payments or applications.

The mayor also emphasized that the work suspension does not apply to offices involved in emergency response, maintenance of peace and order, traffic management, solid waste management, hospital services,and clean and green services. Chan has also given the discretion to suspend work in all private business establishemnts and national government agencies in the city on that day to the management. (MKG)
