THE Lapu-Lapu City Government won’t implement a rerouting scheme during the first day of the city’s annual fiesta celebration on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020.
Mario Napule, City Traffic Management System (CTMS) head, said traffic in the city will not be rerouted even though officials of the National Shrine of the Lady of the Rule will hold a motorcade on Thursday to kick-off the first day of the novena masses for the fiesta.
Napule said the fiesta organizers decided to hold a motorcade to avoid mass gatherings that could more spawn Covid-19 infections.
For this year, fiesta organizers are carrying out major changes in the religious and socio-cultural activities of the annual fiesta.
Aside from the motorcade to kick off the novena masses on Thursday, another motorcade will be held on Nov. 17 to replace the traditional seaborne procession.
On Nov. 20, fiesta organizers will also hold another motorcade to replace the traditional foot procession that will cap off the fiesta.
Napule said they won’t reroute traffic on Thursday as only 10 vehicles will participating during the motorcade.
He said motorists might feel bumper-to-bumper traffic once the motorcade passes, but traffic will normalize”in two minutes or less.”
The motorcade on Thursday will start at the Lapu-Lapu City Hall and will pass by Barangays Mactan, Bankal, Pajac, Maribago, Marigondon, Basak, Gun-ob and back to the National Shrine of the Lady of the Rule. (GCM / JKV)
