THERE may be fewer restrictions to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Cebu City, but officials of Barangay Tisa still won’t hold its annual ritual showdown and street dancing competition for this year’s Siomai Festival.

Barangay Captain Reynato “Ringo” Pacaña said they don’t the money to hold the activities.“Tungod ni kay ang atong kwarta ato mang gihinay-hinay og hapak sa ubang galastuhon human sa (This is because we used up the money on other expenses after) Covid,” Pacaña said.

The last Siomai Festival was held on Sept. 29, 2019. It is one of the highlights of the barangay’s fiesta in honor of the patron, St. Lorenzo Ruiz. The festival was suspended in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.

This year’s fiesta celebration will kick off with a novena that will start on Sept. 15 and end on the 25th.
