Nora Aunor: The superstar at 60

It was a simple yet deeply touching celebration of the 60th birthday of the country's only superstar, Ms. Nora Aunor.

A group of fans, 60 of them, from various Nora Aunor clubs, brought their respective gifts such as photos, frames, and gift boxes to Nora on stage. One fan even came all the way from Mindanao.

Nora embraced each of them as they presented their respective gifts to her. No other Filipino artist could have attracted that kind of love, admiration and loyalty from fans, whose ages now range from elderly to the young ones. Indeed, Nora Aunor is the artist not only for all seasons, but we can say that she is the best that ever happened in the local movie industry ... and now receiving recognition worldwide! Except her, no Filipino artist has ever won multiple awards as Best Actress in international film festivals.

Another highlight of the celebration of Nora Aunor's 60th birthday celebration was the announcement of her next movie project on TV5, "When I Fall In Love," a romantic-for-TV movie that will bring back Tirso Cruz III as her leading man. Other cast members are Marvin Agustin, Nadine Samonte, Karel Marquez, and Akihiro Blanco; multi-awarded Joel Lamangan will direct the movie.

Matet de Leon, Nora's adopted daughter, delivered a touching invocation during the celebration.

Other highlights of the event, which Arnel Ignacio hosted, included performances by Ate Guy's anak-anakan in showbiz - Vin Abrenica, Sophie Albert, Edgar Allan Guzman, Eula Caballero, and Nadine Samonte.

A trailer of Nora's movie, "Ang Kuwento Ni Mabuti" was shown, a CineFilipino Film Festival entry. The Superstar delivered all her lines in the Iluko dialect.
