Nora Aunor wins 8th Best Actress plum in MMFF awards

Veteran actress and Superstar Nora Aunor won her eighth Best Actress award while Dingdong Dantes won his second Best Actor plum at the 38th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Awards Night in Pasig City Thursday night.

Aunor (Nora Villamayor in real life), won praises for her portrayal of a midwife in the film "Thy Womb," while Dantes (Jose Sixto Raphael Dantes III) garnered his award for his role in the film "One More Try," according to a report on "Saksi."

"Siyempre una sa Taas at sa mga fans na hanggang ngayon ay sumusuporta pa rin sa atin," Aunor said when asked who she dedicated her award to.

"Thy Womb" also won the Gat Puno Villegas Cultural Award, Best Director (Brillante Mendoza), Best Original Story (Henry Burgos), Best in Production Design, Best in Cinematography, and Most Gender Sensitive awards.

On the other hand, "One More Try" won the Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Editing, and FPJ Memorial Awards.

The second best picture was "El Presidente," which narrated the story of Emilio Aguinaldo. The film also won the Best Theme Song, Best Sound, Best Float, Best Musical Score, and Best Makeup awards.

The third best picture was "Sisterakas."

"Shake, Rattle and Roll 14" got the Best Special Effects award.

Cesar Montano won the Best Supporting Actor award for his role as Andres Bonifacio in "El Presidente," while Wilma Doesnt won Best Supporting Actress for "Sisterakas" and Miguel Vergara won Best Child Actor for "One More Try."

Meanwhile, PEP.ph said Aunor also won the Female Star of the Night award while former President Joseph Estrada won the Male Star of the Night award.

Winning the SMDC Five Star Male and Female Celebrity of the Night awards were Zanjoe Marudo and Bianca King.

It added other award winners Thursday night included the following for the New Wave Category:
