Seeing as Normal People was literally all we could think, talk and dream about for approximately eight weeks, it's hardly surprising that the BBC/Hulu show has done well with its Emmy nominations.
Yesterday [28 July] saw Normal People scoop up nods for Louise Kiely in the Best Casting category, Sally Rooney and Alice Birch for Best Writing, Lenny Abrahamson for Best Director, and Paul Mescal for Best Actor.
One person who (outrageously, imo) didn't get a shout out was Daisy Edgar-Jones, losing out in the Best Actress category nominations to Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer from Killing Eve, Zendaya from Euphoria, Olivia Colman from The Crown, Jennifer Aniston from The Morning Show and Laura Linney from Ozark. Stiff competition, to be fair.
24-year-old Paul attempted to rectify this by dedicating his Emmys nod to Daisy, writing in an Instagram caption that she was the beating heart of Normal People.
Sharing a screengrab of his character, Connor Waldron, sobbing, Paul wrote, "My actual face right now! Thank you to absolutely everyone @element_pictures, @hulu and @bbcthree! Lenny I will forever been indebted to you❤️. @daisyedgarjones this only exists because of you and extraordinary talent end of! Thank you for all your beautiful messages I’m gonna go away and cry now x"
BBC also took to Instagram to congratulate him, adding, "Congratulations to @paul.mescal. Your portrayal of Connell made the world fall in love. #NormalPeople"
Huge congratulations to Paul - we can't wait to see him in his next TV role, The Deceived. The Emmys take place on 20th September, 2020.
