NTC approves ‘signal shutdown’ for Sinulog

THE National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has approved the Police Regional Office Central Visayas’ (PRO 7) request to shut down telecommunication services on January 14 and 15, 2023.

The request was sent to NTC on December 26, 2022, as PRO 7 aims to ensure the security and safety of people who will participate in the activities lined up for the 458th Fiesta Senor Sto. Niño and Sinulog Festival 2023.

NTC, in a letter addressed to all telecommunication companies and dated January 6, 2023, said all network services must be temporarily cut off from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. of January 14 and 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. of January 15.

Areas to be affected from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. of January 14 are the cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu as the seaborne procession will be held.

From 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. of January 14, there will be no signal in uptown and downtown Cebu City due to the solemn procession.

On January 15, from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., the signal will be cut off in downtown Cebu City and South Road Properties (SRP), where the Sinulog grand parade will be held.

“There shall be no signal, direct and/or reflected, coming from any cellsites (base stations) in the areas covered by the festivities,” the NTC said. (LMY)
