Nueva Ecija takes Game 1 of Filbasket finals with dominant win over San Juan

THE Nueva Ecija Capitals took Game One of the Filbasket Summer Championship with a 77-61 victory over the San Juan Knights in the best-of-three finals on Wednesday night at the Muntinlupa Sports Center.

Cebuano big man Will McAloney played like a man amongst boys as he tallied 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field in just 11 minutes of action. He also had five rebounds, two assists, a steal, and two blocks to help the Capitals take a 1-0 series lead.

The Capitals did not take long to assert themselves in the match as they zoomed off to a 24-12 lead after the first 10 minutes of action. They continued to lead, 38-25, at halftime, and then, blew the game wide open in the third canto, uncorking a 22-14 run to establish a 60-39 lead.

Byron Villarias tallied 10, while Jessie Collado and Chris Bitoon had nine markers apiece.

Nueva Ecija will try to capture the title in Game Two on Friday.

Justin Gutang led San Juan with 14 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.

The Knights’ top guard—former University of the Visayas point guard Orlan Wamar—though, was held scoreless in 18 minutes of action. (JNP)
