Over the past two years, I've gotten pretty used to wearing cozy loungewear while working from home during the pandemic. As a result, as in-person work days and events creep up, I'm dreading swapping my loungewear for semi- or formal wear.
When I started searching for products that I could wear both at home or work that don't sacrifice comfort, I came across Numi's washable silk collection. The Canadian brand is known for using unique materials such as sustainable silk, cotton and TENCEL, as well as a certified stain repellent technology which makes for great everyday essential pieces.
I was curious about the brand's claims of washable silk clothing (goodbye dry cleaning bills!), so I decided to try out The Miller trouser to see how they hold up in real life. Keep reading to find out what I thought.
Retailing for $190 CAD, Numi's Miller trousers are made from a blend of silk and Naia—a sustainable fibre that's been treated with certified stain repellent technology. Thanks to this innovative fabric, you don't have to worry about water and liquid stains — or dry cleaning for that matter, since they are completely machine washable.
The trousers have a flat-front waistband, back elastic, and pockets for a relaxed yet still sophisticated look. They are available in regular and tall lengths, with sizes ranging from XS to XL.
Right from when I opened the packaging to trying on the pants, I loved the soft feel and lightweight material of these trousers. Once I put them on, I felt that they were also super comfortable and baggy enough to easily sit cross-legged or lounge in them. Plus, the pockets are a perfect bonus.
I wore these at home when I first got them, but I could definitely pair these with a white blouse and wear them to the office too.
As a petite person, I went for the regular XS size. However, I do wish they were available in a petites since even the regular length for me is still a bit long for my 5'2" frame. If they were two inches shorter, they would have been perfect for.
To put their stain-repellent claims to the test, I decided to drop water on these pants to see how they hold up. The water was sitting on top of the trouser and you can literally throw the water drops off without the trouser absorbing them.
I also ended up washing them at home, and followed the care instructions by running the washing machine on cold and the dryer on low as recommended. The lightweight yet durable pants turned out just fine after the wash, and still felt very soft — almost as if coming freshly out of a new packaging.
While I love the idea of supporting Canadian companies that prioritize sustainable manufacturing practices and materials, it's important to note that these factors do influence the price of these washable silk pieces.
These pants retail for $190 CAD, while the rest of the Sustainable Silk collection is priced between $90 and $220 CAD. They're certainly an investment, but hopefully one that will stand the test of time by becoming a go-to piece in my closet.
After wearing Numi's Miller trousers, I do agree that these are great to wear "from lounging to lunch," as they brand touts in its product description. I found them to be super comfy, durable and amazing quality. I can see myself wearing the trousers at home and in the workplace since they look professional too.
However, the high price point is definitely something to consider if you want to stay within budget. I would keep a lookout for upcoming sales and promos.
