Odette-hit Sibonga families receive aid from shelterbox

·2 min read

MORE than 500 families in Sibonga, southern Cebu received emergency shelter kits from charity organization ShelterBox Operations Philippines on Dec. 30, 2021.

The houses of these families were destroyed by Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai) on the evening of Dec. 16.

Members of the Rotary Club of Cebu provided support to Shelterbox’s operation on Dec. 30.

ShelterBox said in its official Facebook page that more distributions of shelter kits will be taking place this month.

The organization is hopeful to help 9,000 families in Cebu affected by Typhoon Odette.

ShelterBox customizes the contents of the kit it gives to a disaster-hit area to “meet the individual needs of each community we help. Inside a shelter kit can be a range of simple and rigorously tested tools to repair a home, start a new life and find a way out of the rubble.”

Disaster relief

ShelterBox “provides emergency disaster relief across the globe.”

“We rely on all our supporters. Without you, ShelterBox could not continue delivering aid and shelter to those who need it most,” it said.

The organization provides “emergency shelter and vital supplies to support communities around the world overwhelmed by disaster and humanitarian crisis.”

Since it began in 2000, ShelterBox has “responded to earthquakes, floods, volcanoes, tsunamis, hurricanes, landslides, typhoons and conflict, delivering emergency humanitarian aid to communities in need.”

“The 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2010 Haiti earthquake, the Syria crisis, and the biggest storm to ever make landfall — Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines; we have responded to some of the largest humanitarian crises the modern world has ever known,” it said.

ShelterBox further said: “Alongside this, we have also helped many thousands of people displaced by disasters that are not featured in the media. Simply put, if there are families in need of emergency shelter, we will do everything we can to help them.”
