(UPDATED)A COUNCILOR of Barangay Tungasan, Olango Island died in a shooting incident Sunday evening, May 8, 2022.

The victim was identified as Jose "Sadam" Quiros, who was shot dead by a still unidentified assailant past 11 p.m.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan condemned the killing and called on the Philippine National Police (PNP) to immediately solve it.

"As the city mayor, I cannot let this incident pass without taking action for the swift resolution of this case. I call on our Philippine National Police to quickly solve this matter. If it warrants, I call for the creation of a special task force for the PNP to solve this wanton disregard of life," he said.

He also vowed to give rewards to those who could give information that will help solve the case.

Former Lapu-Lapu City mayor Paz Radaza, who is running against Chan in this year’s elections, offered P300,000 as reward money to those who can help identify the gunman.

"Sadam, ayaw pagkatulga, ayaw pakan-a, ayaw tuguti nga maka-ikyas ang nagbuhat nimo ani. Hasula og maayo ang ilang mga kinabuhi hangtod sila mo surrender," Radaza said in a statement.

She also asked the PNP to investigate the incident.

Quiros was an active supporter of Radaza.

The Olango police, in an interview, told SunStar that they are looking for closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage near the area where Quiros.

Initial reports said there were two assailants, and Quiros was talking to another person in front of a food park in the barangay before the shooting Sunday night.

Quiros sustained four gunshot wounds, said police, adding that he was rushed to the Sta. Rosa Hospital after the shooting. (EHP/LMY)
