Filipina boxer Nesthy Petecio pulled off a massive upset in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as she stunned top-seeded Lin Yu-Ting of Chinese Taipei in the Round of 16 of the women's featherweight division at the Kokugikan Arena on Monday (July 26).

Coming off a morale-boosting unanimous decision win in her debut match, Petecio sustained her fine form to engage in a slugfest with the fancied Taiwanese fighter.

At the end of a fierce battle, Petecio came out on top with a close-call 3-2 split decision. Three judges scored the bout, 29-28, in her favor while the rest gave it to Lin, 28-29.

The 2019 AIBA Women's Boxing Championship featherweight gold medalist now moves a win away from securing an Olympic medal as she advances to the quarterfinals.

Petecio shall return to action on Wednesday (July 28) to take on Yeni Marcela Arias Castaneda of Colombia.
