The martial arts spectacle was originally scheduled for 5 December. But due to the rising cases of COVID-19 in Singapore, it has now been pushed back.
“Due to the record high viral (COVID-19) outbreak in Singapore, ONE X will now take place early next year instead of December 5,” Sityodtong wrote in a Facebook post.
“The Singapore Government continues to do an extraordinary job in managing the situation for the country. I am full of gratitude and appreciation for its incredible leadership and excellence.
“Please note that our regular shows for November and December are expected to continue as per usual. It is a tricky time for everyone in Singapore, but I am confident that we will all get through these times by working together with compassion, resilience, creativity, and patience. Majulah Singapura!”
Mixed martial arts fans need not worry, though, as the Muay Thai – mixed martial arts hybrid super-fight and two ONE World Title bouts will still go down as planned when the event takes place.
ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon and 12-time Mixed Martial Arts World Champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson will meet in the special four-round main event clash.
Additionally, ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes will defend his belt against #1-ranked contender John “Hands of Stone” Lineker. And the ONE Featherweight World Title showdown between titleholder Thanh Le and #3-ranked contender Garry “The Lion Killer” Tonon will also take place.
In addition to breaking the news about the rescheduling of ONE X, Sityodtong also hinted that there’s a lot more to expect from the massive anniversary show.
“I cannot wait to unveil what else we have in store for fans with ONE X,” he said. “Stay tuned for more exciting news!”
