THE Mandaue City Government will be requiring mall operators in the city to allow only fully vaccinated individuals inside their establishments now that the holiday shopping rush is just a few weeks away.

In an interview through the Mandaue City Public Information Office, Emergency Operations Center (EOC) head and lawyer August Lizer Malate said they have set the requirement on all malls in the city as a way to prevent a possible Covid-19 surge that could occur just before the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Malate said he met mall operators during a coordination meeting on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021 to remind them that they should create a system to avoid congestion within their establishments and to make sure that the strict implementation of health protocols will be followed.

Parents are also reminded that Covid-19 is still present and that they should be responsible to protect their children especially if they are going to bring them inside malls.

In Cebu City, Acting Mayor Donaldo “Dondon” Hontiveros issued a memorandum dated Nov. 18, 2021, denying children under 15 years old entry to supermarkets and grocery stores.

This additional measure aims to mitigate the risk of transmission of the virus that causes Covid-19 inside these establishments.

However, supermarkets and grocery stores may consider putting up a well-ventilated and dedicated waiting area for minors to stay in while their parents shop inside
