MORE than 1,000 job vacancies will be offered during the initial leg of “Trabaho, Turismo, Asenso! Philippine Tourism Job Fair” in Cebu on September 22 to 23, 2022, at the SM City Cebu’s Trade Hall.

This was disclosed by Judy Dela Cruz-Gabato, chief tourism operations officer of the Department of Tourism in Central Visayas (DOT 7), in a press conference on Monday, September 12.

Lilia Estillore, officer-in-charge regional director of the Department of Labor and Employment in Central Visayas (DOLE 7), said about 1,038 job vacancies are expected to be offered on the two-day job fair in Cebu based on their September 12 data.

Gabato said companies that may wish to join the fair, interested applicants and job hunters may coordinate with the DOT 7 for more information about the event.

DOT and DOLE signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on August 30 as they aim to jointly conduct job fairs to fill in the gaps caused by jobs lost due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the need to fill up essential job vacancies of the gradually recovering tourism industry.

Both agencies will simultaneously launch the job fair in three different cities in the country -- Cebu, Davao and Manila -- to provide an avenue for the creation of employment opportunities in the tourism sector and allied industries for the Filipinos.

Nationwide, a total of 1,538 vacancies, 1,273 of which are full-time job posts and 265 part-time openings, from 293 establishments nationwide will be offered during the opening.

The Manila leg of the job fair series will run from September 22 to 24 at the SMX Convention Center Manila, while the Davao leg is scheduled on September 22 to 23 at the Abreeza Mall in Davao City.

“This is just the start of the so many job fair this year. We plan that it will be an industry-based so that there will be many who will be hired on the spot,” said Estillore. (MKG)
