Over 100 Visayas reservists complete Exercise Pagsasama 2021

THE Philippine Navy, through the Naval Forces Central (NFC) with the Philippine Naval Reserve Centers of the Central, Western and Eastern Visayas regions, conducted a unilateral exercise with their reservists dubbed as Exercise Pagsasama 2021 on Aug. 16-20, 2021.

Over 100 reservists participated in the weeklong drill which was aimed at boosting interoperability and integration among regular and reserve forces.

Prior to the exercise, the command had spearheaded four-day hybrid lectures on maritime operations at the University of Cebu-Maritime Education and Training Center Dormitories, with participants from Ormoc City Philippine National Police and 802nd Infantry Division, Philippine Army attending remotely through Zoom.

Then in the early morning of August 17, the reservists boarded BRP Batak, BRP Abraham Campo, BRP Alfredo Peckson, BRP Enrique Jurado, BRP Filipino Flojo and the 5th Patrol Boat Division.

Capt. Raul Regis PN (GSC), the deputy commander and exercise director, led the surface events.

Actual maneuvers and shipboard drills were completed off the waters of the Camotes Islands in Cebu Province.

The Gun Exercise (GUNNEX), wherein navy surface assets tested and fired their naval guns, along with a sortie out, photo exercise, maritime surveillance, division tactics, search and seizure, among others, were also carried out.

The simulation exercise of an amphibious raid held on Aug. 19 at the Ormoc City Park was among the highlights of the exercise.

The Commander of Naval Forces Central, Commodore Ernesto Baldovino PN graced the event together with Capt. Regis, Sangguniang Panlungsod Member Gregorio Yrastorza III and City Administrator Vincent Emnas.

The exercise is part of the command’s thrust to strategically and operationally utilize the naval reservists and the Philippine Navy Affiliated Reserve Unit (PNARU) in maritime security and interagency operations with partners from the Army, Coast Guard and the police. (PR)
