MORE than 11,000 students in Cebu City will each receive up to P4,000 worth of financial assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Dr. Ester Concha, head of the City’s Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS), told SunStar Cebu on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022, that their office already released cash aid to over 4,000 students on Saturday, Sept. 17.

Concha said 11,191 students in Cebu City were able to register in the online portal of the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (Aics).

Under the Aics program, indigent elementary school students will be given P1,000; high school students, P2,000; senior high school students, P3,000; and college or vocational students, P4,000.

Compared to the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu, Concha said Cebu City has the highest number of student-beneficiaries.

Due to a large number of students, the distribution has been divided into four batches with the first one on Sept. 17. The remaining distribution dates are Sept. 20, 22 and 24.

The distribution venue is the Cebu City Sports Center, said Concha.

The initial 4,417 students who received the cash assistance were from Barangays Basak Pardo, Buhisan, Calamba, Guadalupe, Kalunasan, Labangon, Poblacion Pardo, Punta Princesa, Quiot, San Nicolas Proper and Tisa.

Concha said students who processed their online registration for the Aics will be notified through email or text message if they qualified as beneficiaries.

The evaluation of the applicants is being handled by the DSWD, but Concha said the City’s DSWS also extended assistance by providing social workers who help in the assessment process.

Qualified students should present their school ID or latest study load upon claiming the financial assistance.
