P1.6M subsidy awaits LGUs that will join Sinulog 2023

LOCAL government units (LGUs) in Cebu Province are set to receive a P1.6 million subsidy if they decide to join the One Cebu Island Sinulog celebration set on January next year.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia announced this through Sugbo News, the media arm of Cebu Provincial Government.

Garcia said each of the participating LGUs will receive P800,000 from the Province and another P800,000 from the Cebu City Government.

Garcia had earlier issued a memorandum inviting local chief executives under her jurisdiction to join the event.

The LGUs are given until January 2 to register so that the registration committee can finalize the list of participants.

In past Sinulog celebrations, the Province has often provided financial aid to organizers to help support the yearly festival.

The Province handed over P3 million assistance to the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) in 2020 and another P5 million in 2021.

For this year, the Province will extend P12 million in financial aid to SFI.

The One Cebu Island Sinulog 2023 will be held on January 15 at the South Road Properties. (ANV, TPT)
