MEMBERS of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) 7 with the help of personnel of the Danao City Police Station and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 7 uprooted at least 15,000 marijuana plants in Langosig, a mountain barangay in Danao City, on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 23, 2020.
The marijuana was worth P6 million, based on the Dangerous Drugs Board value.
According to Col. Roderick Mariano, chief of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), the RMFB 7 received an intelligence report regarding a marijuana plantation in the area, which is why they placed it under surveillance.
Once the information was verified, they immediately launched the operation, which resulted in the uprooting of thousands of marijuana plants.
Following the incident, Mariano asked the Danao City police chief to investigate if Barangay Langosig is the source of other illegal drugs and to determine if the village chief can be held accountable and be charged in court.
The CPPO director said elected barangay officials, especially the village chief, should be on the lookout for any illegal activities within their jurisdictions and report these to authorities.
“I directed the chief of police chief to find out who the barangay captain is and to check if it is the same barangay where we found other marijuana plantations. I want the village chief to explain why he didn’t do anything to address the problem. We may even file a case against the village chief,” Mariano said in Tagalog.
Police still do not know who planted the marijuana plants or who owns the plantation which is far from the nearest human habitation.
Because of the remote location, operatives decided to burn the marijuana plants in the plantation. They submitted sample to the laboratory for examination. (AYB with CBQ)
