Pagasa: Expect nice weather in Cebu on New Year’s Day

CEBUANOS can expect a better weather on New Year’s Day.

This was announced by Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Visayas Chief Al Quiblat on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022, despite the presence of a low pressure area (LPA) that was last spotted 475 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

The LPA has been affecting parts of the Visayas and Mindanao.

Quiblat said the LPA inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility may intensify into a tropical cyclone, and it could bring overcast skies and rains to parts of the country Wednesday.

Due to the LPA, the cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall and occasional heavy rains are expected over Cebu.

Slim chance

But he stressed that there is a slim chance for the LPA to develop into a typhoon.

Quiblat said that starting Thursday, Dec. 29, the weather in Cebu will improve.

“We won’t be expecting a wet New Year,” Quiblat said in a mix of Cebuano and English.

Quiblat further said that temperatures in Cebu are expected to rise up to 28 degrees Celsius on Thursday and up to 31 degrees Celsius in the following days until Jan. 1.

As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, Quiblat said they already lifted the gale warning hoisted over Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.
