Pagasa official: Nice weather in Cebu on New Year’s Day

CEBUANOS can expect an improved weather condition on New Year’s day.

This was announced by Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Visayas chief, Engr. Al Quiblat, on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, despite the low pressure area (LPA) that was last spotted 475 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

The LPA has been affecting parts of the Visayas and Mindanao.

Quiblat said the LPA inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) may intensify into a tropical cyclone and will bring overcast skies and rains to parts of the country on Wednesday, December 28.

The weather bureau official said cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall and occasional heavy rains are expected over Cebu.

But he stressed that there is a slim chance for the LPA to develop into a typhoon.

“Sugod Thursday (December 29), mag-improve ang atong weather condition. So medyo makita na nato ang hayag sa adlaw, partly cloudy to cloudy,” said Quiblat, adding that the wind speed will also improve at 20 to 30 kilometers per hour.

“Sa December 30, mas maayo na ang panahon up to January 1. Dili ta mag-expect og wet New Year,” he said.

Quiblat also said that a temperature of 24 to 28 degree Celsius is expected in Cebu on Thursday and 24 to 31 degree Celsius on the following days or until January 1.

As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, Quiblat said they already lifted the gale warning hoisted over Central Visayas, including Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor. (MKG)
