Pages encourages runners to compete in longer distances in Cebu Marathon

WITH a little over four months until Cebu City’s biggest annual marathon, the Cebu Marathon, race organizer John Pages wants more runners to try and challenge themselves by running the longer distance categories.

“After two long years of virtual runs, the Cebu Marathon has become a most-awaited event. The announcement of the CCLEX as the main venue makes it doubly exciting,” Pages told SunStar Cebu.

“We encourage runners to attempt the farther distances, 21K and 42K, because of the ample time (four months) to prepare.”

The 2023 Cebu Marathon, which is set on Jan. 8, 2023, is back after two years of virtual runs due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

It’ll also be the second race that will make use of the scenic CCLEX route, which was first used by the Ironman 70.3 triathlon race on Aug. 7, 2022.

Pages expects the 2023 edition of the Cebu Marathon to be the biggest one thus far since its inception in 2008.

“We expect 8,000 runners. In 2020, we had 5,000,” said Pages.

The 2023 Cebu Marathon just opened its registration on Friday, Aug. 26. Runners should register for the race on the 2023 Cebu Marathon’s official website, www.cebumarathon.com.ph.

The Cebu Marathon offers four distances that will all make use of the CCLEX route: 42K, 21K, 10K and 5K.

The Cebu Marathon offers an early bird discount which will run up until Sept. 30. The regular rates will return on Oct. 1 to Nov. 30.

The early bird rates are P1,999 for 42K, P1,799 for 21K and P799 for both 10K and 5K categories. The regular rates are P2,400 for 42K, P2,200 for 21K and P990 for both 10K and 5K distances.

The 42K and 21K categories are inclusive of a singlet, a finisher’s shirt and a finisher’s medal. The 10K and 5K categories are only inclusive of a singlet.
