“Pagpag: Siyam Na Buhay” is special for award-winning actor Paulo Avelino because it’s his first horror film under Star Cinema. Directed by Frasco Santos Mortiz, “Pagpag” is a joint venture of Regal Films and Star Cinema, and one of the eight official mainstream entries to the 39th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

Written by Joel Mercado, “Pagpag” is the only horror movie in this year’s festival, and it marks the team up between Star Cinema and Regal Films after more than 20 years.

With his notable achievements on TV as evident in his unforgettable performances on top-rating soaps such as “Walang Hanggan,” “Kahit Konting Pagtingin,” and currently on the hit series “Honesto,” Paulo is arguably one of the hottest young actors under the ABS-CBN stable today. “Pagpag” is a career milestone that further showcases Paulo’s versatility as an actor as he joins the movie’s ensemble cast led by Daniel Padilla, Shaina Magdayao, and Kathryn Bernardo.

“I bonded with the cast and crew and learned a lot from my co-actors and of course, from Direk Frasco. We devoted a lot of time and effort in ensuring that this will be an unforgettable movie worth watching with family and friends this holiday season,” Paulo said.

Aside from being a horror flick, “Pagpag” is also an adventure movie with a hint of comedy and romance. The characters embark in a spine-chilling race against time to overcome the horrors they unleashed in breaking the Pinoy beliefs that should be observed in attending wakes.

“Moviegoers are in for a roller-coaster ride. ‘Pagpag’ has all the elements of a great horror movie. It depicts a classic story of good versus evil and it’s thrilling to see which force will prevail at the end of the movie,” explained Paulo.

The film also stars Matet de Leon, Dominic Roque, Miles Ocampo, Clarence Delgado, CJ Navato, Michelle Vito, Janus Del Prado and Marvin Yap. “Pagpag: Siyam Na Buhay” is part of Star Cinema’s 20th anniversary and it shows in cinemas nationwide starting Dec. 25.

Shortly after release, Regine Velasquez’s newest album “Hulog Ka Ng Langit,” sold more than 15,000 copies and correspondingly, the Songbird received a Platinum Record award from Universal Records. The album was also OPM’s No. 1 best-selling CD and Over-All No. 1 best-selling album, even out-selling Lady Gaga’s “Artpop” CD in the Philippines per AstroVision’s Astro Charts.

“Hulog Ka Ng Langit” is an original composition of US-based Aaron Paul del Rosario, a multi-awarded composer and songwriter. Aaron, whose wife is the former Cathy Laud, was our former neighbor in Fairview before they migrated to the US, told us “this is my first time to write an original for Regine and I’m so happy about the success of the song. It has always been my dream to write an original song for Regine although in the past, she did a cover of my song ‘Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin’ which was originally sung by Ariel Rivera. Aaron has two songs in “Hulog Ka Ng Langit.”

Incidentally, Regine and hubby Ogie Alcasid are committed to raise more funds for victims of typhoon “Yolanda.” In a recent auction of her signature bags and clothes, Regine made at least R1 million and she said she’d like to raise more after the holidays. She will also stage a concert in Tacloban City early next year.

Regine and family will spend Christmas in the Philippines but on New year they’ll be joining Michelle van Eimeren and her and Ogie’s daughters in Australia.

[caption id="attachment_65994" align="alignright" width="189"] WILLIE REVILLAME[/caption]

Willie Revillame invited the entertainment press to a Christmas lunch recently, which actually was the launch of his Christmas album, held at the very impressive atrium of his Wil Tower Mall. The place was very elegant to say the least, and the food was great, everyone agreed.

Willie sang the title track, “Christmas Wish,” a Lito Camo composition. Other songs in the mini album are “Araw Araw Ay Pasko,” “Namamasko Po,” “Unang Pasko,” “Boom Tarat Tarat,” and “Christmas Medley (DJ Coki Remix).”

Willie made everyone happy with his song and the raffle of prizes and the bonding with the entertainment press that followed.

Anyway, through the efforts and leadership of Jay Montelibano, the much-anticipated show of Willie Revillame in Tacloban City will happen today. Jay of course is the ever efficient assistant of Willie. “Wowowillie,” will feature the hosts and dancers of the defunct noontime show on TV5.
