Vice President Leni Robredo is not required to attend Cabinet meetings, according to Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo.
Panelo said the vice president will be invited if the issue to be discussed will be about the campaign against illegal drugs.
“Kung hindi ka naman kasama sa agenda, mas masaya siguro kung hindi ka na aattend (If you are not included in the agenda, maybe it is better if you do not attend). That’s why I said, you should be thankful, pupunta ka lang kung alam mo topic mo (attend if you are familiar with the topic),” he said on Thursday (November 14).
Panelo also added that it is also optional for every Cabinet member to attend the meeting especially if their agency is not part of the agenda.
“When we have a Cabinet meeting, we are invited by the Cabinet Secretary, and we are asked if we are going or not. In other words, it is optional for us to attend,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Palace official clarified that the vice president is free to comment on any issue discussed by submitting a statement.—AAC (with reports from Rosalie Coz)
