In a live video on his YouTube account, social media star Joel Mondina, more commonly known as “Pambansang Kolokoy,” revealed that he and his wife of 20 years, Marites Mondina, had ended their marriage.
He also revealed on Saturday in the live video entitled “Peace of Mind” that he now has a new partner and that his relationship with his kids on his first marriage is doing well.
“Para po magkaroon na kayo [supporters] ng peace of mind and hopefully matapos na ‘yung iniisip-isip niyo, yes, [Marites and I] are no longer together,” he said.
(In order for you, supporters, to have peace of mind and hopefully put an end to the endless questions, yes, Marites and I are no longer together.)
Joel said that he didn’t want to talk first about the issue since they’re still ironing out the “process” of their new setup and he didn’t want to say anything negative to his ex-wife given that she’s still the mother of his children.
“Sa akin sana, what’s going on sa aming private life, sana hindi na dapat nilalabas sa social media … pero dahil nonstop ang mga nagtatanong, okay, pagbibigyan ko kayo. Ayan, nasabi ko na,” he said.
(For me, I don’t want to put out on social media whatever’s happening in our private life … But because of nonstop queries, okay, I’ll just say it. And there you go.)
Although he said that he was flattered by all the comments he receive saying that they admire his relationship with Marites and that even some consider them as the “perfect couple,” he also said that sometimes, the reality is so much different than what’s portrayed in front of the camera.
“So siyempre, dahil good vibes ang aking content (Of course, because my contents are mostly good vibes), we have to look good, we have to make you guys laugh, not to make you guys cry, or get mad,” he said.
However, Joel did not delve into the details of their marriage problem, but he said that he continues to provide for his children.
“Lahat po ng gusto nila, lahat po ng hilingin nila ibibigay ko kahit hindi ko kaya ay kinakaya ko dahil mga anak ko yon, mga best friends. Hindi po ako pabayang ama,” the comedian said.
(Whatever they want, whatever they wish, I strive to give it to them because they’re my children. I’m not an irresponsible father.)
He ended the video by thanking those who continue to support and respect him, even those who are bashing and saying negative things about him.
