The Pampanga Delta pulled the rug from under the Davao Occidental Dreamers, coming up with huge stops and baskets in crunchtime for an 83-80 victory on Sunday night at the Cebu City Sports Institute to earn a spot in the Pilipinas Super League 21-Under National Finals.

The win by Pampanga means they will be facing off against the Consolacion Sarok Weavers for the national title on Monday night at 8 p.m. at the same venue.

Davao Occidental had the inside track on the crucial victory as they led 80-76 after two free-throws from Isaac Go with 1:18 remaining in the game. The Dreamers even had a shot at extending their lead but fell into a maze of hurried shots and turnovers that gave Pampanga life.

Charles Delfino scored a gorgeous layup that came after a dribble move that sent his defender sprawling to cut the deficit to two. Then, Jeffrey Sy completed an and-one to put the Delta ahead, 81-80, time down to 40.1 seconds.

The Dreamers had a shot at retaking the lead but Lawrence Angeles’ three-pointer from the corner went long which led to Joshua Miclat canning a layup on the other end for an 83-80 Pampanga lead with just 13 seconds left on the clock.

Davao Occidental’s last offensive possession went awry as Rainier Maga and Angeles missed potential game-tying three-pointers before the final buzzer sounded, giving Pampanga the pulse-pounding victory.

Delfino led Pampanga with 20 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists, while Justin Bautista added 17 markers.

Sy added 11 while Miclat punched in 10 for the Delta.

Jude Bagay and Marvin Samonte had 16 points apiece for the Dreamers, which saw their once-promising campaign come to a bitter end.
