FORMER world title challengers Vice Paras and Robert Paradero fought to a split draw in their 10-round fight in the main event of “Sanman Bubble IX” on April 26 at the Sanman Gym in General Santos City.

Judge Brembot Dulalas had the 23-year-old Paras up ahead by a huge margin, 98-92. Judge Robert Alocelja saw it the opposite way with Paradero having the slight edge, 96-94. Judge Sabas Ponpon Jr. scored it a 95-95 deadlock.

Paras is now 16-2-1 with 14 knockouts, while Paradero 18-2-1 with 12 knockouts.

Because of the draw, Paras and the 25-year-old Paradero may have a rematch. Paras and Paradero are both former world title contenders.

Paras challenged for a world championship in 2018 and lost by unanimous decision to the International Boxing Federation minimumweight title in Japan.

Paradero, in the meantime, fought for a world title twice. He fought for the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) minimumweight belt against Vic Saludar but lost by split decision last year in Cavite.

He took another shot after that and lost via a fifth round technical knockout in the hands of WBA minimumweight Super champion Thammanoon Niyomtrong in Thailand.

In the main supporting bout, Kenny Demecillo (16-5-2, 10 KOs) destroyed veteran Macrea Gandionco (13-12-3, 8 KOs) in the second round. Demecillo knocked out Gandionco with a body shot.

In the undercard, one-time world title challenger Jason Mama ( 17-1, 9 KOs) beat tough Ramel Antaran (4-17-2) via a lopsided decision; hard-hitting Ian Sampan (5-0, 5 KOs) demolished Rey Ramos (8-14-2, 3 KOs) in three rounds; former interim featherweight champion Jhack Tepora (24-1, 18 KOs) had a successful ring return with a second round knockout of Richard Betos (21-27-2, 8 KOs); Justine Darap (10-2, 6 KOs) made quick work of Nicardo Calamba (9-35-5, 6 KOs) after knocking him out in the opening round; Alex Santisima (3-0, 2 KOs) stopped Carlito Antaran (5-6-1, 3 KOs); and Jerson Arigola (2-0) hands Gabriel Tapales (1-1, 1 KO) his first career loss after beating him by majority decision.
